Could have been so much better, seems like a missed or poorly used opportunity. For example, it could have really emphasised the periods of time that passed between no life, first life, complex life, vertebrate life, mammalian life and humans and other primates. Instead, there seemed to be a 'rush' to mention 'Scotland', dinosaurs and humans. Still, some interesting things and lots of (very unhygienic) buttons for children to press and an entertaining earthquake. Would recommend, but with a lot of sanitiser gel or spray, and with reservations and a sadness at a limited learning experience that could have been so much more. The food offered smelled good but seems very time limited and had run out by the time we were ready to eat, which was not shown on any of the signs, still showing the full menu when all fresh food was long gone. Some staff were ok but the impression was mainly tired, bored, underpaid or just poorly trained and lacking enthusiasm. It really could be so much better in the space and with a few improvements, education and some overhauls.

exhibition and planetarium were good, just a massive shame they allow lots of school groups to attend on the same day. There must of been at least 5/6 different schools attending at once and this really put a downer on our experience . Our little one struggled with all the noise and didn’t want to be in certain areas with the school groups who were really loud and running around the place. Little one was pushed out the way on some bits he wanted to look at. Really ruined it for us. Wouldn’t mind if it was the odd school group but it was literally one after the other it was ridiculous. The staff though were really helpful and friendly and a lovely man on the customer service desk offered for us to come back on a different day or to refund us which was really understanding and helpful. Have to pay for car park which is quite expensive considering it’s expensive to get in away.

Amazing for kids. You have no idea what’s in the next room which adds to the excitement. Lots of imagination. Not too busy. Expensive but worth it.

I was there for a conference back in January 2025. The venue was incredible - spacious, great facilities - the whole thing feels like it’s the future, so a climate resilience conference was appropriate. It’s not too far from the station, but has a great setting by Arthur’s seat and Holyrood Palace.
The catering was really delicious! Particularly enjoyed the salmon wraps they did. Very tasty. Well done guys

The actual exhibition was awesomely excellent and worth a visit. Indeed so much to see do it twice. But I've deducted 2 stars because the cafe has to be the absolute worst I've ever been to. I think the scones were last used to make cobblestones for the Royal Mile. Inedible. Took them back and complained. Assistant shrugged. Picked up two pre packaged gingerbread biscuits. If the scones were tough, these were clearly engineered from left over Roman soldier sandals. Even after dunking in lukewarm tea still couldn't make even a slight dent. The tea and coffee were so unexceptional, tiny cups and lukewarm at best. No soft drinks visible for toddlers. Plenty fizzy but nothing healthy. Take a flask and some sarnies and enjoy in Holyrood Park but awesome exhibition

Nice place to visit. Expectations were admittedly kind of low, but they were well surpassed. Reasonably priced took about2 hours to walk through, and it was quite interactive. Full access fow wheelchair users and Prams. Suitable for teenagers and young kids . Highly recommend for a family fun experience, or even if you’re just into science and our world.

Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh offers an engaging experience with its interactive exhibits and immersive storytelling about Earth's history and natural wonders. The staff is notably helpful and friendly, enhancing the overall visit. However, the planetarium experience might feel average, particularly for those expecting cutting-edge visuals or more in-depth presentations. It’s a great spot for families and those with an interest in geology and natural sciences, though the planetarium could use some improvement to match the rest of the attraction's quality.

This is a brilliant way to introduce children to the concept of geology, space and the magnitude of time. We went with ages 2-11 and they all loved it! Great day out and the cafe was great value too.

Underrated! We had a brilliant time. It was quiet and empty. We were able to stroll around and take our time. The experiences are brilliant for adults and kids, would say it was the best tourist thing we did in Edinburgh
